DVLA Application Process
- Conditions:
- Must hold a Category B Full Car Driving Licence.
- Must be over 21 years of age.
- Unless between 18 and 21 if you are in the Military or registered with the Scottish Young Drivers Training Scheme (SYDTS).
- Application to DVLA for Category C⁄C1 Provisional Licence.
- Form packs are available from main Post Offices, your local DVLA office or by completing the Online Form on the DVLA's web site.
- Complete Form D4 Medical by GP.
- Complete Form D2 Application for LGV⁄PCV provisional driving licence.
- Send both documents back to DVLA Swansea.
- LGV⁄PCV Driver Theory Test
- Upon receipt of the provisional licence (up to 3 wks), the LGV⁄PCV theory test can be taken.
- DSA theory test fee is currently £32.00 and can take up to 3 weeks to get a suitable date and time to suit.
- Upon receipt of your provisional licence call System Group to book⁄reserve the earliest course and practical test dates.
- LGV Driving Course: Category C (rigid)
- Upon successful completion of the Theory test, the next stage is the practical rigid vehicle training Category C.
- Normally takes place over 6 days, which includes the practical test on the 6th day.
- DSA practical driving test fee as of April 1st, 2008 is £105 or Saturday morning prices on application, payable directly to System Group who arranges earliest possible date on your behalf.
- LGV Driving Course: Category C+E (articulated)
- Category C test must be passed before commencing Category ‘C+E’ training.
- Upon passing Category C test; send certificate and driving licence to DVLA Swansea to have it updated to reflect your new driving status.
- Call System Group to book⁄reserve the earliest course and practical test dates.
- Practical driving training for Category C+E can commence upon proof of the provisional entitlement.
- Training normally takes no more than 6 days, which includes the practical test on the 6th day.
